Here's the set list from last night's show. The show was phenomenal. 8 new songs, 17 oldies. 2 rarities, 'The Rules' and 'Thugs', which were both great to hear. The show included a 3 song intimate 'acoustic' set (Courage, The Rules, Wheat Kings) right after the intermission break. Those were the only 3 songs that people sat down for the whole night up front where we were.

Here's the second half official setlist picture:

During the show, Gordon Downie's microphone was starting to cut out on him, so he grew frustrated, and started what looked like 'stabbing' the microphone on the stage with the mic stand. He tried to sing into the microphone again, but it was still cutting out (or dead) so he took it off the cord and threw it into the crowd beside me. A guy had the microphone apparently, but it was knocked out of his hand, and went back down to the floor. My friend Ryan told me it was still there, so I looked over, saw it, and then stepped on it until all the hands going for it pulled away, then I carefully grabbed it, and put it in my zipper pocket! So I am now the proud owner of a Gord Downie SHURE SM58 Microphone!

I was fortunate enough to meet Paul Langlois before the show briefly, I think he just went for a brief walk and a smoke break. He said the Portland show was 'hot', as in no air conditioning, and was looking forward to the Victoria shows on Friday and Saturday night. I tried getting a picture with him, but the gal who snapped the picture shot early (as I was shaking his hand), so here ya go.

The highlights of the night for me as far as songs go were Morning Moon, Love Is A First, The Rules, Wheat Kings, and Thugs, probably because I haven't heard these very much before in my previous 8 or 9 times seeing The Hip. And those songs sounded great. The crowd really got into Locked in the Trunk of a Car, Lonely End of the Rink (which Gord said jokingly it was a song less about hockey, and more about public skating) and Fireworks.

The show ran from just after 8pm to almost 11pm, so long show, lots of great songs, a good vibe in the crowd, and a great time had by all.
Off to Victoria tomorrow to check out the Save-On-Foods Memorial Center.
